Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

The Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF) is a pan Indian voluntary organisation that works to promote Montessori principles of child development among teachers and parents.  It was established in 2009 in order to create awareness about Montessori principles and a common forum for anyone interested in child development. The IMF is guided by a team of trustees, who bring with them considerable experience in education and training across India.

Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

Being a voluntary organisation, run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers across India and abroad, IMF has brought together like minded Montessori practitioners, educators and experts who are in service of children through various platforms. The organisation supports parents, teachers, schools, AMI graduates and others interested in Montessori education. IMF, is the Indian affiliate of the Association Montessori Internationale, Netherlands.

IMF organises talks, workshops, webinars and conferences creating spaces for discussion and interaction. The aim of these events is to enrich the lives of young children by bringing the community together.

Montessori books are inspiring. These books are mainly drawn from transcripts of Montessori’s lectures given in various courses. Her words put us closely in touch with the child and his environment.  IMF publishes books written by Maria Montessori to support the practice of Montessori Education in India.

Montessori environments require handmade materials. The teachers are usually hard pressed for time. So IMF also produces a few useful educational materials which are widely used in Montessori schools. Small-sized furniture in keeping with Montessori principles, suitable for children between birth and six years are made to order.

IMF publishes a newsletter called The Touch Board to reach out to all members of the Montessori community – AMI members, teachers, parents and alumni. The newsletter features articles, anecdotes, columns, features, news from the training centres and creates an ongoing dialogue in the community. Eight  issues are published between July and March every school year.

The IMF Annual Journal called Montessori Matters carries serious articles on education by Montessori experts, practitioners and educators, transcripts of presentations given at IMF conferences.

Friends of IMF will have special access to the donor’s section. The Touch Board and Montessori Matters, and articles on education and child development are available to read online.

Indian Montessori Foundation has instituted the Anandhi Ramachandran Endowment Fund (AREF) to support the education of Montessori teachers and Montessori Teacher Trainers. AREF is a special corpus donation which is to help people who need financial assistance to train as Montessori teachers or trainers.
