When the summer months arrive we begin to look around for ways of helping children wisely spend the time they are not in school. The screens always present around the children at home beckon the children away from these activities and seat them for long hours in front of fast-paced, flashing and noisy entertainment. Montessori believed that children are constantly at work, they work on their own development. Can Montessori principles be applied in the home during the heat of the summer when children are at home? How can we ensure that the break from school does not become an obstacle to the child’s growth? How can we support the personal and social activity of children when they are out of school? This talk will offer parents and families a few strategies of supporting children during the holidays.
